Call for Presentation for the JIMM 2024 Autumn Meeting

The JIMM 2024 Autumn Meeting will be held at Osaka University, Toyonaka Campus from Wednesday, September 18 to Friday, September 20.
The Poster session for High school students and College of Technology students (High School Students Poster Session) will be held at Osaka University on Wednesday, September 18 and online on Wednesday, September 25. (You can choose either date.)
We look forward to receiving your application for presentation. JIMM will accept your application and abstract submission for presentation as follows. All applications must be submitted online.
The selection process for the Best Poster Award has been changed. Please see below for details.

Application for Presentation

Application Period (Deadlines must be strictly observed!)

 1) General sessions, Symposiums with calls for presentations(S series), ISIJ-JIMM joint session, Poster session,: Monday, May 27, 2024 - Friday, July 5, 2024, 17:00
2) Poster for High School Students and College of Technology Students: Monday, May 27, 2024 - Friday, July 12, 2024, 17:00
- Registration for participation is required at the same time as the application for presentation.

Please confirm the following before submitting your presentation

 1) Non-members can also apply for a presentation if they pay the registration fee and speaker's fee. (For details, please refer to "Qualifications" in the "Application Guidelines.)
2) Conference registration is required at the same time as the presentation registration. After applying for participation, please pay the registration fee and, if necessary, the speaker's fee by the due date. If the registration fee is not paid by the deadline, your presentation will not be accepted and will be treated as cancelled.
3) Please submit your abstract and presentation application at the same time. (If you do not submit them at the same time, your abstract will not be accepted.)
4) In principle, the applicant must be the presenter of the presentation. (Please refer to the "Application Guidelines".)
5) A membership number and password are required to apply for a presentation as a member. If you have lost or forgotten your password, please go to the JIMM website to have it reissued. For security reasons, we cannot issue passwords by phone or e-mail.

For those who are going to join JIMM and apply for presentation.

 1) Please apply for membership by the following deadline and pay the annual membership fee by the deadline.
2) If you do not pay the annual membership fee by the deadline, your presentation will not be accepted.
3) Please apply for membership from the following website. Your ID (membership number) and password will be sent to you by e-mail on the same day you apply for membership.

1) No refunds will be made for cancellations after payment has been made.
2) Please download and print out the receipt from the application page (Annual Meeting MyPage) after the payment is completed.
3) Note to regular members 65 years old and over: Please be sure to register your date of birth in the membership information data before registering to attend the meeting. If you do not register your date of birth in your membership information, you will be charged.
4) Student Member: If your membership type is different from the registered membership type due to a change in graduation year or higher education, etc., please change your membership type before registering to attend the meeting. If you have exceeded the graduation year registered in your membership information, you are automatically become a regular member.
5) Youth members who make a presentation other than a poster presentation for high school students are required to pay 5,000 yen as a speaker fee.
6) Non-members should click "Non-members click here" in the presentation category on the presentation application site to apply for a presentation.
7) Non-member applicants will receive a one-year membership. However, the privilege will not be duplicated.

How to Apply for Presentation

1) Registration

2) Abstract

  • Please download the latest MS-Ward template from the application website and prepare your abstract.
  • The volume of the abstract should be one page (A4 size).
  • After the abstract is created, it should be converted to a pdf file with embedded fonts and uploaded.

3) Number of presentations

  • No more than two per person. However, two poster presentations are not acceptable.
    (The above does not apply to special presentations such as award presentations, keynote presentations, and invited presentations.)

4) Duration of presentations

  • General session: 10 minutes for presentation, 5 minutes for discussion
  • Symposiums with calls for presentations(S series): 10-20 minutes for presentation, 5-10 minutes for discussion
  • ISIJ-JIMM Joint session: 15 minutes for presentation, 5 minutes for discussion
    (Speaker must manage his/her own presentation time and strictly adhere to it.)

1. Contents of Presentation

  • In principle, the content of the presentation should be well organized and unpublished.

2. Qualification of presenters

  • Members must have paid the annual membership fee and participation fee, and non-members must have paid the participation fee and speaker's fee.

3. Change of Speaker and Cancellation of Presentation

 (1) No easy change of speaker or cancellation of presentation after application is accepted.
(2) If you wish to change the speaker due to unavoidable reasons, please contact the secretariat in advance. (If the change is to be made on the day of the presentation, be sure to obtain the approval of the chairperson.)
(3) The speaker who can be changed must be a co-author of the abstract and a member of JIMM.

4. Consecutive presentations

 Consecutive presentations will be accepted only if all of the following conditions are satisfied.
(1) The applicants must submit the same session title.
(2) The order of presentation, presenter's name, title, and (if possible) acceptance number must be written in the remarks column when applying for a presentation.
(3) The request for consecutive presentations in application must not be submitted after the deadline.
(4) No more than three consecutive presentations in the same laboratory.
Accept that the presentations may not be consecutive.

5. Preferred Date of Presentation

  • Please indicate in the remarks column when applying for a presentation.
  • Preferred presentation date will not be accepted after the application deadline.
  • Accept that the requested date may not be available.

6. Program

  • The program will be available on the conference website in early August 2024.

Poster session

1) Presentation method

 Please refer to the latest "Instructions for Preparation of Poster Presentation Manuscripts," which will be posted on our website in August 2024.

2) Entry for the Best Poster Award

 Please check the box "I want to entry for the Best Poster Award" when you register for the presentation.
The judges will evaluate the presentations and select the best poster and present the "Best Poster Award".

3) Requirements for the Best Poster Award

 (1) Students and young researchers under 30 years old at the time of presentation.
(2) Have not received this award in the past.
(3) The presenter must not be a substitute presenter.

4) Poster Award Selection

 (1) The review will be conducted by reviewing abstracts (first round) and presentations on the day of the symposium (second round).
(2) Summary Requirements and Peer Review Criteria The following items should be clearly stated in the abstract in a manner that readers can understand.
  (1) Positioning and goals of the research, their importance, novelty, originality, and development
  (2) Purpose of the research
  (3) Experimental methods and their validity
  (4) Logical structure of the results (and discussion)
  (5) Novelty, development, and importance of the results (and discussion)

How to Prepare and Submit a Presentation Abstract

1) Download the latest template (MS-Word) from the conference registration website
(https://www.jim.or.jp/convention/2024autumn).
2) Please prepare your abstract using the downloaded template.
3) Convert the completed abstract file to a PDF file with the title, authors, affiliations, and text of the presentation completed.
4) Upload the PDF file and submit the abstract at the same time you submit your presentation application. (*If you do not do this at the same time, your abstract will not be accepted.)

 - Language: Japanese or English
- Manuscript size: A4 size, 1 page (portrait)
- Notes on preparation of manuscripts:
(1) When converting MS-Word files to PDF, be sure to embed fonts.
(2) Be sure to place a circle in front of the presenter's name (check the box for the speaker on the application form).
(3) Check the quality of text, figures, and tables before uploading.
(4) Revision of submitted manuscripts: Replacement of manuscripts is possible only during the application period. In principle, no changes will be accepted after the submission deadline.

Abstract Requirements

In order to ensure that your abstract is fair and appropriate, please prepare your abstract according to the following requirements. All submitted abstracts will be reviewed by experts in the field and judged for acceptance or rejection based on the following peer review criteria. If an abstract is judged "not suitable for publication" as a result of the peer review, it will be returned to the author(s) with the reason(s) given.
(Abstract requirements and peer review criteria)

 (1) The presentation should be original and unpublished.
(2) The presentation should contribute to the development of science and technology of metals and related materials.
(3) The presentation should not contain any content that is clearly considered to be military research.
(4) The abstract must be prepared in accordance with the preparation guidelines.
(5) The authors agrees that the copyright belongs to JIMM.
(6) The authors must not engage in research misconduct or inappropriate behavior.
(7) The content must not be for advertising or commercial purposes.
(8) The content must not include content that is slanderous or defamatory.

Abstract Submission Procedures

Note: The information entered in the registration form and the registered abstract will be directly reflected in the program.
- The applicant must be the speaker himself/herself.
- Please note that the server may be overloaded and delays may occur immediately before the registration deadline, so please register as early as possible.

5) Once your application is complete, you will receive an acceptance notification by e-mail, and you will be able to log in to "Annual Meeting MyPage".
6) You can pay the registration fee and speaker fee by credit card, convenience store payment, or invoice payment from the " Annual Meeting MyPage".
7) Invoices and receipts can also be downloaded and printed from " Annual Meeting MyPage.

During the registration period, you can check and correct your registration information and replace the abstract from the " Annual Meeting My Page".

Please make sure that the contents of the abstract to be uploaded are the same as the title and authors' names entered in the application form.
If there are any changes, a revised version of the abstract must be resubmitted by the due date.

No requests will be accepted after the application deadline.
